At one time almost every farm in Wales made cheese, each having their own individual tastes and textures. Caerphilly has become the most famous, and my doll Lyneth is depicted carrying her wares to market. She is dressed in an open fronted woollen ‘betgwn’ (bedgown) with underskirt, shawl and apron. Her underbonnet is trimmed with lace and she wears a tall black felt hat. The sturdy basket is full of finished cheeses wrapped in muslin, with smaller ones carried in the gathered folds of her apron.
Standing 14” high (including hat) Lyneth has porcelain head, hands and half-legs. Her features are carefully china painted and she has life-like set-in eyes and a soft brown mohair wig.
